The aim of reservoir optimisation studies is to make better use of hydrocarbon reserves in order to improve an oil company's economic returns. Given the government's interest in developing reservoirs with poor petrophysical characteristics, hydraulic fracturing is one of the best completion methods for achieving highly profitable production. The oil company 'Eni' has decided to carry out a fracturing operation on Well Y, located in southern Tunisia. The results of the operation confirm that it is possible to improve reservoir productivity through hydraulic fracturing. My project therefore focuses on the fracturing of two levels, A and B, in the Acacus formation of well Y, followed by the numerical modelling of the resulting fractures and their evaluation using Schlumberger's fracCADE fracturing software. This study therefore examines the methodology of hydraulic fracturing, the rock properties on which it depends, the orientation of fractures in relation to in-situ stresses, the operation of the simulation software, and changes in permeability following fracturing.
