Slate and Sanction: A Continental Marshals Novel

Raylan doesn't need warrants to see in the dark, and he doesn't need much patience for men who think three thousand acres of timber puts them above federal law.As a Marshal for the Continental, Raylan runs forfeiture enforcement with a squad that can freeze a room solid, stop a man's blood mid-vein, or drop out of a storm at Mach 3 - six people the Republic sends when the paperwork runs out and someone still won't open the door. But a routine compliance raid cracks open something the paperwork was never supposed to show: a forfeiture scheme running quietly through the records office, tied to a sitting Commissioner, and built on eleven years nobody in the Commission ever bothered to check. Twelve families lost everything to a law that was never legal in the first place - and one of the men who lost it all is done waiting for the system to notice.Raylan's squad has to find out how deep it goes, who built the access that made it possible, and whether the people meant to police the Republic's own magic are the only ones capable of stopping it - before the next family disappears into the paperwork too.Slate and Sanction is a procedural with teeth: federal law, real consequences, and a squad that solves problems the old-fashioned way when the law runs out of room.
