Behind every device shipped to the market exists an engineering world largely hidden outside semiconductor companies: Automatic Test Equipment (ATE), handlers, probers, calibration systems, industrial software, manufacturing constraints, and the infrastructures required to test devices at high speed and high volume.This book was written to introduce that world from the inside, from the perspective of someone who directly contributed to the industrialization and mass production of multiple mixed-signal, power management and inertial MEMS integrated circuits shipped worldwide in high volumes over nearly thirty years.Rather than approaching the subject from a purely academic perspective, the text deliberately starts from the final result of test development: the complete production test solution operating inside a semiconductor factory. The goal is to help the reader first understand what a real industrial test system looks like and why it exists, before progressively exploring the methodologies behind it.Although the detailed design methodologies are mainly reserved for the following volumes, this book already introduces practical engineering concepts and techniques including debugging, validation, characterization, calibration and yield optimization.This is not a catalog of machines, but an introduction to the engineering reasoning, trade-offs and practical realities behind modern semiconductor production testing.
