In 2002, in the wake of a traumatic experience of loss, a doctor introduced Veronique Le Normand to Jin Shin Jyutsu, a Japanese approach to healing that teaches us that we can help ourselves simply through the use of our hands. In 2017, after fifteen years of study and practice, she set off to Japan to learn about the healer and samurai Jiro Murai who had revived this physio-philosophy at the beginning of the twentieth century. Accompanied by her friend Kyoko Watanabe, Veronique retraced the steps of the elusive master, often, it seemed, in the presence of the 17th-century poet Basho. She came to appreciate the acute sensibility of the Japanese that is clearly visible in the way they take care of their bodies and in the way that care resonates in their minds and souls.
